High Pressure Sodium (HPS) Grow Lights
HPS lights are used for flowering and budding growth stages.
High Pressure Sodium (HPS) Grow Lights:
High pressure sodium (HPS) grow lights belong in any serious indoor gardener’s grow room. High pressure sodium lights provide strong light in the red spectrum which is optimal for plants in the flowering growth stage. Metal halide or fluorescent grow lights are typically used for the vegetation growth stage, and from there it is all high pressure sodium for the flowering stage. High pressure sodium grow lights are doing the work of the sun, and provide the light energy the plants need to complete photosynthesis and flower.High pressure sodium (HPS) grow lights promote optimal plant growth in the flowering stage. When plants have completed the vegetative stage, and are ready to move into the flowering stage, place them under high pressure sodium grow lights and expect quick and healthy growth from there. If you want the most out of your plants, place them under high pressure sodium grow lights during the flowering growth stage, rather than metal halide or fluorescents. Metal halide and fluorescent lights simply do not generate light intense enough for plants in this growth stage.
One thing to note about high pressure sodium (hps) grow lights is that they burn very hot. It is incredibly important to have adequate ventilation and cooling systems when using high pressure sodium lights or the grow room could easily get too hot, and possibly catch fire. If plants are kept too close to the bulbs, they could burn and get damaged. It is common to see high pressure sodium lights on adjustable light hangers so they can be lowered or raised as necessary to keep them away from the tops of the plants.
A single 600 watt high pressure sodium light will provide enough light for about four plants, and a 1000 watt light will produce enough light for about 8 plants. Depending on the size and layout of the grow room, sometimes it is better to use two 400 or 600 watt lights instead of one 1000 watt light because the light can be dispersed to more plants in a wider area. For larger indoor grow rooms, 1000 watt high pressure sodium bulbs are a must have. No matter what the size of your indoor grow room is, or how many plants you have, using high pressure sodium lights will ensure you get the most out of your plants.
